Recently , I had a hair extension in June, right before Raya. I had a though time deciding in doing it, applying extensions for the first time.
Well, I have had them a month plus now and I feel this is the right time for me to share my experience of having extensions since I’ve received tonne of questions asking how I getting them applied, how much does it costs, how long it would lasts, maintenance and many more.
If you are keen to know, feel free to read till the end or else you may skip this post. Nothing to be impressed just experience.
Before going further, let me put a disclaimer that I am not an expert but only sharing my experience and some of the knowledge that I feel it could benefits you. If you have any inquiries, you may go to salon and get their consult instead of listening to people.
There are few types of extensions;
Mine is tie-braided bond method which won’t effect so much hair damage, yet as per stated in the table above, I need to avoid over styling. ( As a stubborn person, I still do some of the styling as long I feel comfortable with the style.) The professional stylist applied the 200 pieces of strands extensions with in an hour. The bond itself is pretty small and invisible but depending on the hair thickness. If I tie my hair up, the bond could be seen due to my thin baby hair ( I don’t really have much hair).
They picked up wavy hair type to match my original hair besides dye the extensions closes to my original hair colour. Total cost involved was RM 600 (inclusive shampoo, hair extension dye, layered hair cut and curl)
I found them hard to be adjusted for couple of week. I felt not comfortable while sleeping , my head felt so itchy, and hurt due to the tight bonds, yet after couple of weeks, the bonds are loose and since then I feel so much better and relieved. p/s: hidden story behind the application. After a week applying the hair extansions , which is around Eid-Ul-Fitri week, I cried and regret for applying them on! (blaming my boyfriend for not stopping me from doing it. hahah! well, actually he already warned me but I am the one who are so stubborn wanna try it out!) but sooner when I feel comfortable with the hair, I really have been recommending to everyone that has asked me. 😛 But Wiida would you re-applying it? I prefer my original hair. Tapi… if ada orang nak sponsor, why not?! hehehe >.<
They last about 4-6 months before needing to be removed and re-applied if you want.
Scalp / Dandruff free shampoo
Conditioner & Hair Mask
Brush & Serum
How would you wash you hair?
Wash like normal you do, but when you scrubbing your scalp, be gentle and need to rub horizontally not in random movement.
How about Hair dye?
I did it by myself like I normally do without any restrictions.
Need to use paddle brush/ if using the straight comb, you need to make sure the comb is 45 degree slanted .
You may tie your hair up but if you have less thin hair like mine, the tie-bond could be visible.
Curl – macam biasa, just curl it with iron curling rod or use mousse for natural air-dry curling method.
Hair Spray? – Yes, you may use it and wash the hair afterwards with shampoo & leave-on conditioner.
